![]() ![]() ![]() In The New York Times, Amy Silverberg noted the feminist argument conveyed by the murderous protagonist: "Why is it that women have been kept out of so many industries, including Patrick Bateman-style serial murders? Because, Dorothy thinks, people don't want to believe women can do the job. Daniels narrates the story of her crimes from prison, moving back and forth in time between her life behind bars and the life that led to her imprisonment: specifically the food she ate, including eating men. ![]() The book follows food writer Dorothy Daniels, who is also a convicted serial killer. ![]() ![]() Such industriousness on the part of the viscountess and the late viscount is commendable, although one can find only banality in their choice of names of their children. "The Bridgertons are by far the most prolific family in the upper echelons of society. The Bridgerton family are part of British nobility and are a well respected, immensely loving, and tight-knit clan favored among high society. Set between 18, each novel features one of the eight children of the late Viscount Bridgerton and his widow Violet: Anthony, who is the current Viscount Bridgerton, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth. This is actually a collection of 3 wordless picture books (hence the trilogy). In this age of digital cameras, this will probably be unfamiliar to your students. There is a scene with the boy waiting outside for the pictures to be developed. They will also benefit from a little background knowledge on film. The boy from the beach realizes that he is just one kid in the long line of kids that has taken a look at this camera. The last picture is of a girl that is holding a picture of another kid. This is a Caldecott Book Winner, so you know the pictures are amazing! It tells the story of a boy at the beach who finds an old camera that, based on the pictures, has seen some incredible, unbelievable underwater adventures. ![]() ![]() ![]() The best things about this book for me are the kids and the narration. It feels like Matt was just wanting a "wife fill in". The fact that she's so pure and nieve, tge possibility of hooking up with an old dad just doesn't seem sexy to me. For a while the only thing going on is Matt being rude with a bunch of angst between them. Matt is a 30 year old super grouch and Octavia is an 18 year old virgin. It sounds like the story would get really hot and sexy after this point, but unfortunately it doesn't. When he sees the bullies in town giving her a hard time during her job search, he speaks up and hires her. ![]() Sounds like a great match for Matt right? Matt, who's still grieving the loss of his wife, thinks Octavia reminds him of his wife too much to be around so he doesn't hire her. She's helped raise her siblings while her mom worked to support a household without a dad. Long time resident Octavia just happens to be looking for work. When he starts working as a mechanic, a nanny becomes necessary. Matt's a sexy single dad who moves his kids to a new town after the death of his wife. Not the worst story I've ever heard, but certainly not the best. ![]() ![]() ![]() We don't allow personal recommendation posts. ![]() We also encourage discussion about developments in the book world and we have a flair system.
